The setting of the shift leaver can be 1, 2, 3 and D. On the leaver is a botton for Sport. In on postion a S light is on on the dash board.
PROBLEM:
The on - off position of the sport mode does not work anymore. The light is on at all times. Shifting from 1 to 2 works. Shifting from 2 to 3 and D does not accelerate anything. In 3 or D position, the transmission does not speed up automatically at any engine rpm. It takes about 2600 rpm to speed up to 40 miles while stuck in 2nd gear.

I took the cover around the transmission leaver out and the 2 nuts which holds the contacts to the sliding leaver. I cleaned it with an electric spray to ensure better contacts - no change.

I had next to no problem in all these years with my Honda car. I would appreciate if you could give some advice.

Thank you very much.
