So I have a strange problem. There seems to be a grinding noise at idle. If you open the hood the noise is coming from the right side of the engine bay which has the alternator, water pump, timing belt. Any idea what it might be? I was thinking either water pump or alternator, but i'm honesty not sure.

Hi,

Is it possible for you to record it and upload it so I can hear the noise? Also, the timing belt is unlikely, but anything that turns on a bearing is possible (water pump, alternator, power steering pump) and so on.

The easiest thing to do is remove the accessory drive belt and then turn the components by hand to see if you feel any roughness, hear any noise, or if there is play coming from the bearing.

If you can upload the noise it's making, it may help me identify it.

Let me know.

I'm hoping you'll be able to hear it. It's a little hard to hear in the video, but you can hear it.

Hi,

I hear something. Almost like a clunking. What I suggest is to remove the belts and turn each of the belt driven accessories by hand to see if there is play in any of the bearings or noise from them. Also, have you noticed any coolant loss? It could be the water pump

Let me know.
