I recently broke my transfer case and the one we replaced it with does not have the right connections so we just left the 4 wheel drive disabled and only drive in two wheel I thought that was fine although now my encoder motor is broken and I don't know what that is and if I really need to have it fixed or not is the car safe to drive w/ it broken?
thanks Melanie

The encoder motor shifts your transfer case in and out of 4whl drive and hi/lo range. Is it problem with bolt pattern or the electrical connections, that you can't change E motors? As long as the E motor isn't leaking case fluid, there's no harm or danger in driving. You just won't have range selection.
