My service 4 wheel drive light came on so I had it checked out at the dealer. It doesn't come on all of the time. When it was on they said I had a broken encoder motor and needed to replace it. The same thing happened on my 1999 gmc sierra at about the same mileage. I replaced it then. This time I wonder if it isnt a regularly timed event. Any suggestions?

Hello,

The encoder motor is no different than any other components within a vehicle that malfunctions after certain amount of usage.
Many times, those motors last much less and other times much more than your current mileage.
So, there is no set mileage for them to go bad, all depends on the driving conditions and other factors like product quality.

Please let me know of any questions.
Thank you.
