Gear light with ! Symbol turned on

Comes to a junction, I put foot down to get out and join traffic, car revs up and gear symbol come on. I pull over and turn engine off then back on, and symbol goes off, and I drive my 50 mile drive home as normal with no problems. Is this a common blip or something worse?

This light in relation to the engine revving with no acceleration could be normal. It could be the transmission "protecting" itself. If it sees something wrong it can put it into neutral. However, we need to start by checking the codes to find out what the possible causes are.

Once we know what codes are there then we can figure out next steps.

Worse case, I would not worry too much if this only happened one time. However, I would want to at least check codes so that we can at least record them if it happens again.
