Car overheats while at stand still. Transmission does not switch gear properly have to be over 6,000 rpm's. I had a code for timing but went away on the highway. Help

Just to clarify the issue. When you are driving, the vehicle will not shift until you get over 6,000 RPM's and then it will shift or it never does?

Let's address the shifting issue and then see if the overheating is still an issue. That could be happening due to the RPM's being so high.

We need to check the fluid and make sure the level and condition is correct. Once we do this then we can move onto a shift solenoid issue.

Just to double check can we check and see if there are codes? It is unlikely that we have this transmission issue with no codes.

Let's start with this and go from there. Thanks
