Electrical problem
1998 Ford Taurus 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

I have a 1998 Ford Taurus 3.0 Engine, Automatic. The alternator went out on it, so we changed it and the 1st one we got was bad so we had to change it again. The battery was also bad so we put new battery in it. Now the volts were reading 17 volts at first and now it is like it keeps killing the battery. What else can we do. The vehicle also has a passtime box on it if that makes any difference. Anyone's help would be greatly appreciated here.

Ok we have put another battery it bc the one we had at first was also not the correct battery for the car. We took the alternator back out this morning and it showed bad so we replaced it again. Now the volts are reading 13.0 with the motor accelerated and with it just idling. The battery light on the dash is now real dim looking until you accelerate the motor up then it gets bright. So now what do we need to do?

We finally got it fixed after about 2 wks. It was the mega fuse 175. Everyone was telling us the wrong place where the fuse was located but we finally found it. Thank you so much for your help though, it was greatly appreciated.
