Steering problem
1995 Ford Taurus Automatic 198000 miles

I posted on this earlier but life happens so here I go again.I had adjusted to this problem until something was pointed out to me today.

My car will not go into gear without the steering wheel being turned slightly to the right. This has been going on for a little over a month. A neighbor pointed out to me today that my brake lights are not coming on. This is alarming seeing as how no one else has pointed this out to me so who knows how long I have been driving without brake lights.

I had the brake light switch changed a few months ago and I have never had problems with the the car going into gear until a month ago. I know I will probably have to go back to the mechanic, I just want to know the potential problem.

Hello and thanks for donating

Your brake on/off (BOO) switch definitely goes hand-in-hand with the shift interlock system. Seeing as how the BOO switch was replaced already and it did not fix the issue, I would suggest checking for power to the switch. If the switch is getting power then it must have failed again and if it has then there is something causing the premature failure. This could be due to faulty wiring so inspect the wiring well ensuring it is connected properly and not damaged.
