How do I adjust my clutch so there's not so much free play?

I just had my clutch master cylinder replaced and now the shifting is very tough. The first 75% of pedal movement is now free play and there's only about 1-2 inches of actual clutch engagement. Mechanic said they could not figure out how to adjust the clutch play and that there wasn't a way to adjust it. Is that really true? Or how do I adjust my clutch so there's not so much free play? Also, shifting is now very tough. Mechanic said when the fluid was changed there c/b air bubbles that need to work themselves out first then shifting should loosen up. Is this true, how long will this take? Truck is no fun to drive anymore.

Good evening,

I would try bleeding the clutch first I attached the procedure for you to bleed the clutch.

There is no adjustment for this as it is hydraulic and there are no adjustments for hydraulic clutches. All the free play from air in the system is the reason for hard shifting.

If this does not work, good chance the slave cylinder is bad. That is part of the clutch assembly in the transmission.
