I have an 87 Ford Ranger that I just replaced the clutch in, while it was out I put it in gear so that could line up the spline better by turning the out put shaft. Well all went well with the install except no it won't come out of 2nd gear, like maybe I pushed to far without the shifter in or something. Do I have to take the tranny out and take it apart to get it back in neutral. I think the 1st and 2nd shift fork is stuck.

Can you move the shifter at all? Does the clutch disengage? Remove the boot that is around the shifter, you can gain access to the transmission throught the floor of the truck. Remove
the bolts that hold the cover plate on the transmission, then take out the shifter, with the shifter out allign the two shifter forks, the reassemble

OK here was the fix, I dropped the tranny and there was two cover plates on the side. I removed the cover plate and the shift forks where right there, popped it into neutral, and back in business
