Under driver side of vehicle mounted on fuel rail. Disconnect negative battery cable. Here is a guide so show you what you are in for and a video to help you release the fuel lines from the filter with diagrams below to show you the location:

Where is the fuel filter for a 2002 Ford Ranger Extended Cab? Will this cause the truck to not start after running for awhile. Truck starts intermittently. Looking for direction to start first.

Check for fuel pressure
it should be 40 to 55 PSI .

Check for codes
Check for spark after it fail to start.

The fuel filter should be located on the drivers side on the frame back towards the gas tank.
Slide under the truck in front of the back tire and look on the inside of the frame you will see it.

Where do I find the fuel filter on my 2000 Ranger? Is it on the bottom of the engine, or somewhere else? Thanking you in advance.

Where is the fuel filter located on this vehicle and can it be replaced apart from taking it into the Ford Dealer?

The truck turns over well, but will not fire. Pumping the accelerator and continual turning over the engine will eventually cause it to fire, but lope terribly, until the engine warms up a bit then the engine will run normally, and start promptly until it cools off when left sitting for a period of time. I also have the check engine light showing now.

Any help appreciated, I am leaving Hawaii and want to sell the vehicle before I leave. I do not want to pour a lot of money into repairs.

Jere

Under vehicle located underneath the drivers door. You can do it yourself but you need a special tool that ford makes, as for the check engine light if you have an AutoZone in Hawaii get the codes and post them here.

My truck seems to hold back when laboring a hill or higher revs. Could this be fuel filter? If so, where is it and do I need special tools? Many thanks. Q

Removal and Installation:

Note:There is an early and late build version fuel filter. The procedure is similar for both.

Disconnect negative battery cable. Release fuel pressure. See FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE RELEASE . Remove fuel filter fittings. See FUEL LINE CONNECTORS . Remove fuel filter from bracket. See Fig. 88 . If necessary, remove the nut and the bracket. To install, reverse removal procedure.
Fig. 88: Removing & Installing Fuel Filter (Late Build Shown; Early Build Is Similar)
