I recently had to change the timing belt on my truck because it had slipped. I found the markings on the others, but I am unsure of where the marks are for the crank.

The keyway has to go straight up here is a guide to help you see where the marks are.

Please run down this guide and report back.

1995 Ford Ranger mileage: 140,000. What would cause timing belt to jump a notch?

As the timing belt wears it becomes stretched out and that can cause it to jump.

Thats why they really recommend that they be changed at a SCHEDULED INTERVAL, I've mostly seen 60,000 miles being that interval, usually outlined in your owners manual or in the "Scheduled Maintenance" section of a Repair Manual.

Much grief could be avoided, if people would just do this maintenance, instead of waiting till it's too late.

Timing marks are used to align the valve timing for the camshaft and crankshaft. they are usually indentations/markings on camshaft and crankshaft pulleys.

usually right above the keyway.

When you say off do you mean off timing or off broken off you should check if the cam turning, and if so check the crank sensor, fuses and relays
