1994 Ford Ranger Heater Selector Control not sliding

I just got this nice old used truck. In great shape. Runs like a top. Just today the slide selector for the vent adjustments.I.E. Floor, floor-vent, defrost etc. Only slides over to the first setting. Winter in nearly here and it I can't get the defrost to work. Then I got problems. Please advise.

If I recall, in 1994, they used a steel cable to move the vent doors. It could be kinked or the vent door could be jammed. I would start by getting under the dash and following the cable to the vent door it operates. See if it can be moved manually if you disconnect the cable. If not, that is the problem. If it moves easily, then check the cable itself.
