WE JUMPED THE CAR TO START IT. BATTERY WAS DEAD. CAR SHUT OFF WON"T START AGAIN. PUT NEW STARTER IN, NEW BATTERY& STILL WON'T TRY TO TURN OVER. WHEN HUSBAND TRIED TO JUMP IT WHEN IT SHUT OFF ALL LIGHTS IN DASH CAME ON. IF THE ALTERNATOR IS BURNT OUT WILL IT CAUSE THE CAR NOT TO TURN OVER? IT IS A FORD TAURUS SHO. HAS A 3.4 YAMAHA MOTOR IN IT.

If I understand correctly the car will not turn over at all, meaning when you turn the key it does nothing? An alternator will not usually cause this but it does lead me to ask what the battery cables look like are they badly corroded? Is the alternator putting out anything when it is running? Are all the ground wires to engine intack? Get back to me with what you can and we will take it from there.
