When the car is first started for my morning commute (about 12 miles), there is a loud humming type sound and a noticeable vibration. When put in gear, it seems as though there is too much throttle at idle. After beginning to drive, the engine will rev up slightly while maintaining a steady throttle. When I start the car again at lunch time, it seems to be fine. Do you have any idea what is wrong? Thank you.

Hi:
It sounds like the throttle positioner sensor is bad. The engine most likely reves in the AM and that is the vibration and hum. Also, a bad TPS will cause a fluxuation it the engine speed.

Let me know if this helps. Also, you may want to have the computer scanned for codes. Most nationally recognized psrts stores will do it for free, and it may identify the exact problem.
