I have a 2006 F-150 four wheel drive. The steerig binds when turning left or right in the same spot either direction. Approximately the 10 and 2 positions. Then frees up for a spot, then binds again. I have read that this is caused by the steering shaft u-joint, or Intermediate steering shaft, needing replacement. Does this sound correct? If so, is it a repair that someone who is mechanically inclined can do himself?

Ok first off with only 45000 miles is it still under warranty? If not then yes it is something that you can do yourself if that is the problem. Now these shafts are becoming more available in the after market at the parts stores. I would inspect it for binding before just replacing it because it can be a power steering pump or steering sensor too.
