2002 Ford Explorer transmission

My vehicle is not taking reverse it can go forward; there is a little rattling in the engine. I am afraid to drive it, I was told it is the transmission. Unfortunately I don't have a picture.

Hi there,
With these modern transmissions there is little to be done when it fails as you need specialist test equipment to do a complete diagnosis, have it towed to a transmission specialist, they are best equipped to test and report on this failure for you.
