My '97 Ford Explorer heater blows hot air all the time. How do I get to where the blend door is and/or the vacuum connection to check them?

Hello !
Start checking the heater core valve.
Could be "stuck open" it is located on the firewall behind your engine in pass. Side
(you will see a couple of hoses going there)
