I have changed out my fuel pump but now my gas gauge doesnt work. How can I find the problem?

I believe the fuel float gauge is part of the pump assembly. When you replaced the pump, is it possible that you trapped the float at the bottom of the tank so it can't move and is showing empty. Also, was the wiring connector and wiring in good condition including the ground?
