When it shifts into high gear it acts like it is shifting into a low gear at the same time slowing the car down and really working the engine.

Hello,

Any time there are shifting issues the first item that needs to be checked is the transmission fluid.
Make sure that the fluid is at the correct level and in good condition. Low or contaminated fluid can trigger shifting issues.

This can also be due to low fluid pressure inside the transmission due to a failing oil pump, or faulty valve body or bad solenoids.

Here is a helpful guide:

Are you getting any type of warning light on the dash? Many times, with this type of shifting issue the check engine light gets illuminated.
If the light is on, then getting the vehicle scanned for trouble code(s) can help with the diagnostics.

I have attached some diagrams for your reference.

Please let me know if you have any questions.
Thank you.
