There are no adjustments on the lifters. If you are experiencing a rattle on accelleration, check the MAF to see if it is dirty.

The MAF on your vehicle is located in the air filter housing top. It is removable and you can clean it gently with electronics cleaner. Use a cleaner that dries with no residue. The sensor tells the computer how much air is flowing through the engine and allows the calculation for the correct amount of fuel to be delivered. If it is dirty, it miscalculates and does not allow enough fuel, thereby causing the rattling and pinging noise you hear. That is the engine running too lean. Good luck. By the way, your engine ie a 4.6L engine. It is a little smaller than than the 289. I think it is actually almost a 281 cubic inch engine. It is actually 280.709.
