I have a 2006 Ford CVPI when I am on the highway going a great speed I here my lifter, how would I know which one is going bad the top or bottom and can I use a thicker synthetic oil to slow it down at high rate of speed on the highway and if not what would be the estimate on the replacement?

It probably is not a lifter. If the engine is running lean, it will cause detonation under acceleration. It needs to be checked by someone that can look at the data in the PCM. It is possible the MAF is dirty and cause the condition. Or maybe as simple as a vacuum leak.
