2000 Ford Contour

I have a 2000 ford contour. I can drive it about 8 miles or so and it will lose compression, shake viberate and act like the gears are slipping. It will change into gear when I let off the gas. When I stop and go again it will sputter ands spit and backfire a little. Please help

Need to narrow down the problem to a likely loss of spark or fuel or timing. I would start by checking to see what codes are present in the computer.

This may aid in narrowing down the problem. A torque converter problem may be present. If no codes are shown, then I would check for fuel pressure specs and check for spark with a spark tester while the problem is happening.
