My car overheats only when stopped or a lot of slow stop and go traffic.

Does the engine have a fan shroud? Can you send me a picture of the fan set up?

Cheers, Ken

Yes it has a fan shroud. Aluminum radiator, five blade fan, with a thermal fan clutch. Fan Is four inches from radiator, and is out side the shroud 1/2".

Additionally, I had a 160' thermostat and resently changed it to a 195'.
Engine Is a 409ci with 475hp, bored.030 and a bigger cam. Aluminum heads, 2-4s.

Car hold temperature fine traveling down the road it is the long idling time that it heats up. Mainly at stop lights in a row and traffic.

I purchased the car one year ago, guy I purchased it from did built and installed to 409 engine in 2012. He was very meticulous and did not cut corners that I can see. He did not drive the car much, so there is less than 1,000 miles on it.

It looks clean. When the car is heating up can you hear the clutch fan engage? It will roar when it starts to lock up. If not I would get a new fan clutch (GM) from rock auto and install it.

It is a fan problem or it would overheat when driving.

Please let us know what happens.

Cheers, Ken

Clutch fan is not very old or used much. They go bad that fast or from lack of use?
