I let off accelerator it downshifts and high RPM's

The miles are original. Shifts fine it is just when I am going around forty mph and I let off accelerator it downshifts and high rpm's. I will feather or play with gas and until it will up shift again and work until I let off again.

Good afternoon.

The first thing I would do is to change the oil/filter in the transmission and add some valve body modifier. The valves in the valve body may not be moving smoothly from varnish in the passages.

Is there any codes in the system?
