I was given a 1999 Ford Taurus which will not shift into any gear. When shifting out of park, the car will shift out of park and you see a slight change in engine RPM. Will not move in any direction forward or reverse. Fluid and filter has been changed. Was told the TCC solenoid might be bad. Can this be changed without removing the transaxle or am I looking at a complete overhaul job?

Uh-oh, if a solenoid is bad, or is operating outside it's parameters, there will be some sort of code stored. Cel may or may not be, also the green od light on the dash may blink, no forward or reverse could be electrical or mechanical hydraulic, I would have it towed to a locally-owned reliable trans shop for diagnosis, on a sorry side note, my 99 Taurus dohc with 65k trashed the planetary gearset in several pieces, out of the blue. We bought it new, car is near mint, what a mess internally. Regularly serviced mostly by myself, have had trans flushed out at least twice, might be three times, I'm thinking 20 40 60k miles. I called up Ford, no help from them maybe never, I was extremely irritated to say the least, their answer basically yeah well.1450 dollars with a new trans mount and oil seal
