I have a 2002 Dodge Ram 1500 V8- 5.9L with 116000 miles on it. After driving for a few miles the check gauges warning light comes on when I come to a stop. The only gauge that drops a little low is the oil pressure gauge. I then put it in neutral and rev the engine and the light goes off. All fluids are full. Could it be the oil pump? If so how can I test it without pulling it out of the truck?

Hi:
It could be the pump, a plugged pick-up tube or a simple oil sending unit. I recommend getting an oil pressure gauge, removing the sending unit and checking to see how much oil pressure you actually have at an idle. Once you do that you will know where the problem might be. Or, you could just change the sending unit to see if that was the problem. Chances are that is where the problem is. The 5.9L is a good engine and should long outlast the mileage you have on it now.

Let me know what you find.

Joe
