Mechanic said fan clutch was bad. I can spin fan with my hand. Mechanic said it was not spinning fast enough to cool engine thats why its running hot. Is this a difficult repair? Im no expert but I have replaced radiators, in tank fuel pumps, brakes, etc. I just want to be sure that there is something I should know before I attempt it.

The worst part to replace it is to get the nut loose that holds the clutch to the waterpump pulley.

I recommend removing the fan shroud to gain access. Here is my trick. Do not take off the belt. Wedge a couple screwdrives under the pulley between the pulley and the water pump to help prevent the pulley from turning. Next, get a large cressent wrench and fit it tightly on the nut (fan clutch). Take a dead blow hammar and smack the cressent wrench counter clockwise. It usually takes about 5 or 6 hits, but then the nut will come loose.

They make tools to do this, but I have yet to find one that works.

Let me know if this helps or if you have other questions.

Joe
