2001 Dodge Durango Engine or Transmission

While cruising in the highway, I notice that the RPM's will jump from around 1500 to 2000 or better. I can feel and hear the change in the engine. Is the transmision slipping or could it be something else?

Mine was doing the same thing a couple of months ago and it was the throttle control sensor that was causing it. Once I changed it out the problem went away.
