I have a 1996 Dodge Avenger. I have replaced the spark plugs and wires but the engine is still running rough. The engine seems to run well at or above 50 MPH. Below 50mph the engine shutters, it looses power then surges then losses power etc. Almost to the point where I am afraid the car will simply stall and die. I also have changed the air filter. Could this problem be because of a bad fuel pump_fuel filter or some computer malfunction? Please help, this is my only for of transportation.

Hello,

This sounds like a problem with the mass air flow sensor. First I would scan the PCM for codes to see if there are any, then clean the MAF and replace it if that didn't help.

Here are a couple guides to help you get the problem fixed.

Please let us know what happens.
