Clutch will not push down on truck

I removed master clutch and noticed push rod is all the way up and very wobbly. Let fluid out and can't push rod down. Is master bad or something else? Thanks

Good afternoon,

The rod should be able to be pushed in when you remove it.

Yes, it sounds like the master cylinder is bad. I would replace the slave as well.

Note: When replacing clutch master cylinder, remove tubing from vehicle for bench bleeding procedure.

1. Disconnect the clutch master cylinder push rod from the clutch and brake pedal pivot shaft lever.

2. Disconnect the Clutch Pedal Position (CPP) switch.

3. Remove the pushpins.
4. Raise and support the vehicle.

5. Disconnect the clutch hydraulic line from the transmission using the SST.
6. Lower the vehicle.

7. Remove the master cylinder reservoir and master cylinder.
1) Rotate the master cylinder 45 degrees clockwise.
8. Clean all clutch master cylinder components.
9. Inspect the clutch master cylinder for:
weak spring.
damage to any reservoir components.
damaged cups.
scored piston.

10. Lightly clamp clutch master cylinder reservoir in a vise.

Clutch Release Cylinder Removal/Installation
1. Remove the transmission.

Note: Inspect the clutch housing for traces of fluid. If fluid is visible, replace the release cylinder.

2. Remove clutch slave cylinder.
1) Remove the bolts.
2) Remove the clutch slave cylinder.

3. Remove the clutch release hub and bearing.
1) Push clutch release hub and bearing against the spring.
2) Remove retainer ring.
3) Remove the (A) clutch release hub and bearing and (B) spring.
4. Clean the clutch slave cylinder.
5. Inspect the clutch slave cylinder for the following:
Weak spring
Worn or damaged piston
Worn or damaged boot
Leaking fluid

Caution: The clutch release hub and bearing is prelubricated and should not be cleaned with solvent. The clutch release hub and bearing are replaced as an assembly. Do not disassemble for inspection or replacement.

6. Wipe oil and dirt off the clutch release hub and bearing.
