1981 Chevy Truck warm up in Morning?

I just bought this truck. Before this I had an '82 with a 250 in it that ran for 325K. I let it warm up every morning. My husband thinks this is hurting my engine.
I think it is preserving it.

Who's right?

If I leave the accel. Alone, the choke kicks down on it's own in about three stages over 5-7 minutes. Isn't this OK?
