Transmission problem
1999 Chevy Suburban V8 Four Wheel Drive Automatic 200K miles

During this winter I found that when I put my Burb into 4WD it made horrible noises - rubbing, squeaking, grinding, you name it. Now, even in 2WD it's making this sort of grinding noise whenever I take my foot off the gas and begin to coast. It has nothing to do with braking. It doesn't happen when I accelerate. Some "experts" have mentioned it might be something in the transfer case. I'm really worried about the tranny. I've been waiting to get it looked at until I get my tax refund. I now have that. I'd like to walk into the shop and act as if I at least have some sort of knowledge. I don't like being ripped off. Any suggestions/thoughts on what it might be and pricing? Thanks.

Shop around at tranny shops and local mechanics take it in have them look at it and give you a quote and whats wrong, post them back and I can tell you if its a proper price and if it may even be causing the problems.

Check your universal joints first.
