Transfer case

When you start from a dead stop the transfer case will grind unless you just bearly add throttle. This only happens in 2WD. If you place it in 4WD it will not grind. Once you take off in 4WD and shift it into 2WD it will not grind again until you come to a complete stop.

Any advise on where to start is greatly appreciated!

Thanks.

I would suggest starting from the basics, check the transfer oil level and condition.

I have checked the oil in the transfer case and It is full. The 4wd is all the way back, and all the way forward on the floor with 2wd and neutral in the middle. I have shifted to 4 low then reverse, stopped put to 2wd and still grinds. I have also tried several other combo's shifting trying to get the problem corrected but to no avail. Very frustrated.

Seems something has worked itself loose or is worn inside the transfer case. A disassembly of the transfer case might be necessary to check what is wrong.

What is the transfer case model?
