Engine Performance problem
1995 Chevy S-10 4 cyl Manual 187000 miles

I have a friends 1995 chevy s-10 and one day it just stopped running. I brought it home and checked the spark, fuel pump, fuel filter, electrical, etc. I have good spark and the fuel pump will run if I bypass it with a jumper at the main wire block. When I turn the key over the pump does not come on. I checked all the wires and everything is fine. I did notice that I get 12.5 volts at the plug near the fuel pump wiring harness when I use the bypass jumper, but I only get 8.75 volts when the key is turned over. A friend told me that they had problems with the fuel pump wiring harnesses going bad. Could it be that 8.75 volts is not enough to run the fuel pump and the wiring harness needs to be replaced or might it be a ignition issue? Any suggestions would be great. Thank you, Finaledge

Check the fuel pump relay. The wiring harnesses were usually later model trucks and the Cseries, not the S series. I ouwould check to make sure that you have a good ground as that could cause it as well. Or maybe the wires in the tank are breakind down which alot of them did.
