2001 Chevy Impala 2001 Impala signals intermittent and some

My wife's cars turn signals go out and then stay off until you restart car. Also from time to time the car just wont start. Everything seems to work but it just wont start. The problem is its so random(usually when we need it most) we've never been able to show the problem to a mechanic. One mechanic siad it might be some king of ignition module. Does this also affect turn signals?

When the problem happens, is the security light on?

(These have a problem with the ignition switches but the system can be bypassed. I doubt the t/s are related, but wouldn't rule it out. When the t/s aren't working try manipulating the turn sugnal switch a little to see if they begin working.)
