1989 Chevy Celebrity 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic

My 1989 Chev Celebrity does this thing where when I start the car in makes a rev noise then calms down and when u put it in drive. U cant get 2ins before the car just cuts off. And its been doing this every since I got the new starter put in. And when I do get the car started everytime I stop at a Stop sign or Red Light the car cuts off. My friend says it could be the Fuel Filter. Another says in could be anything. What's wrong with the car?

Clean out the idle air control valve to include the EGR valve and test the throttle position and manifold absolute pressure sensors.
