I was told that the noise I hear sounds like an airplane while driving is the wheel bearing that needs replaced, and I should just have both replaced, is this true and what is the average cost to have this done? I appreciate your help.

Sometimes it makes sense to change both, but if you are pinching pennies, replace the bad one... Cost depends on who does the job, the parts are about 80.00 at the store, but a shop will markup the price to 160.00 or more plus labor of at least one hour at their rate.
