How do I install a blower motor on this car?

Removal:
Disconnect the electrical connections from the blower motor.
Remove the blower motor retaining heat stakes with a chisel or a screwdriver.
Remove the blower motor .

Note:
Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

Installation:
Install the blower motor screws and tighten the screws to 44 lb inches (5 Nm).
Connect the blower motor electrical connector.

Four cylinder front wheel drive manual.

I am trying to remove the blower motor, but there does not seem to be any nuts or bolts holding it up under the dash. Where you would expect nuts or bolts to be, there are plastic covers that are not removable that have a small (about 7 mm) hole in the center. I cannot see inside the hole. How do you remove the blower motor?

My parts book showed the above picture. The two holes around the edge are probably for the retainers, may be a third one on the opposite side of squirrel cage, that we cannot see in the picture? My information says to remove the retainers with a chisel or screwdriver. I do not have an actual picture of retainer, you need to be sure.

I am trying to remove my blower motor for replacement. It looks as though there is a housing with rivets keeping me from dropping the blower motor itself. I have attached a picture. I need to know next steps to either remove these rivets or am I missing something altogether.

Those are heat stakes and you have to use a chisel to cut them out. purchase new fasteners for installing new blower motor. Here is a guide and diagrams below to show you how on your car.

I own a 1998 Chevy Cavalier. My fan went down to one speed and then quit. I took out the blower motor and gave it some power and it worked. I was told the resister was bad so I replaced the resistor. After replacing the resistor I got heat and air out of my duct for a day. Then the blower motor quit with no air coming out of my duct. Before it quit all the fan speeds were working and all air positions were working as well and I did have heat. Don't know what is wrong relay, switches etc. I am wondering what is or very well could be wrong. If it is relay were is it and how do I test it or switches or anything else to see if they are bad? Any help would be great.

Check the blower fuse 30amp if okay-test the blower motor relay in the engine compartment fuse/relay center

By using an ohmmeter to check the coil and switch side of the relay unable to do it-swap or replace the relay

The control switch is the one on the front of the dash used to contorl the speed and the other the direction of air flow correct? Just wanted to make sure we were talking about the same one.

Test the blower switch with a test light.
Connect test light between blower switch connector terminal "E" (Black wire) and battery voltage. If test light illuminates, blower switch needs replaced. If test light does not illuminate, there is probably faulty wiring that needs to be traced with the test light.

Yes, I did read it.
I did not mean to interrupt between you and Rasmataz, as he is a great tech. I simply stepped in because I am sure he is busy and could not get back to you yet.

Between what you two have already tested out and talked about, I would assume it has to lie somewhere in the switch or in the wiring.

I hope this helps.

Just post results of light test and either I or Rasmataz will follow up.

I don't mind you stepping in at all. I need all the help I can get. It is about to get cold and snowy here so I need some heat not so much for me but so I can see out my windows. It seems like all the stuff I try just doesn't fix it. I will test the switch and let both of you know what I come up with. Again thank you for your help.
