I got an answer that said to remove the door shell. On the Cavalier, once the door panel has been removed, there is nothing but sheet metal and a few holes through which some of the inner workings can be seen. I don't see any way to remove this sheet metal. Is the door shell the outer piece? On this site, the illustrations on R&R the power window motor show cleqr access to the motor, not so on the Cavalier. HELP! Should I just throw in the towel and take it all to a shop?

Dont give up, some access to the window motors can vary, if the inner panel can not be removed you must remove the outter shell, it is easier than it looks. Please let me know how it goes.

When I called it a door shell I was refering to the door panel itself. Sorry about that. The access holes in the door seem small but with a little patience you can get the job done.

Good luck

To change the power window motor. Remove the door shell of course

You will see the motor for the window. Unplug the power.

The motor is actually riveted in so you need to drill out the rivets. You can drill these out through the door itself use a larger bit so you can see the rivets holding the motor to the regulator. There is 3 rivets.

CAUTION: Sure you support the window before you drill out the rivets as the window will fall when the motor is removed. Use tape or a wedge to hold it up.
Dont use to large of a bit to drill the rivets holding the motor to the regulator as you will need to use the holes in the regulator for the new motor.

Remove the old unit.

Then install the new motor with self tapping screws. Plug in the power.
Let me know how it goes.

Good luck.
