I have a 1984 Chevy Camaro V6 2.8, that is hard to start, especially on cold mornings. When I start the car it will start up right away and then will shut off almost right away. I crank it again and I have to put the gas to the floor and hold it to get the car to start. The car will shake and wobble and tons of smoke will come out of the exhaust. After it starts I need to maintain the gas peddle about 1/4 down to keep it running, it takes about 5 minutes until I can let my foot off the gas.

I just recented had the carburetor repaired and it worked fine for a little while. I checked all the vacuum tubes and I increased the idol, now it goes through a tank of gas alot faster and starts up a little better at times. When cold outside or I don't run the car for a day, it becomes hard to start again.

Hi
Carb is flooding could be float level too high or debris in seat. With it running look down into carb if you see any fuel spilling into venturi then carb needs work.
Hope this helps

I will rebuild the carburetor this weekend. I have been unable to find a picture to see where all the vacuum lines connect. The sticker on the car is degraded and hard to read. Plus I have a hose that is not connected to anything and not plugged and another item that does not have a hose connected at all. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

I rebuilt the carb this weekend. I forgot to put the spring for the throttle control on not knowing until later.

I started the car and it started up but idoled high due to the spring being off.

I put the spring on and tryed to start it the next morning and it cranks but will not start.

What else could be the problem?

Do you have a procedure for tuning up the carb. IE veryifying the air/fuel mixture.

Idol adjusts both fast and slow for a rochester varajet II carb?

Thanks for your help.

Did you drill out A/F mix screw caps? You wouldn't possibly live in Fla?
