So pretty much my fuel gauge works above half a tank but once it gets to half a tank it just freezes up. Now my question is will I have to spend the $300 to buy a whole new fuel pump assembly to fix this problem, or can I buy just a replacement pump for around $75 and just switch out the old pump in the assembly with the new one.

Actually, the pump isn't causing the gauge to freeze. It sounds like a bad float. I believe it is part of the fuel pump assembly.

First, your not an idiot (lol). They change things so often, most people can't keep up with it. As far as replacement, I believe the float and pump are one unit. Actually, you may be able to get the pump seperately, but to get the float, it comes as an assembly.
