How can you tell the if your transmission is a 700R4 or a 4L80E?

How can you tell the if your transmission is a 700R4 or a 4L80E?

There should be a tag somewhere or it may be stamped into the case. Sometime you can tell by the number of bolts, however, I believe they both have the same number which is 16. Below are a couple pics that might help....
