2002 Chevy Astro Heater

While driving, the warm air stops coming from the heater/ac vents, when I take my foot off the gas or sitting at idle the warm air begins to blow again and then stops blowing when I accellerate. Any idea what the problem is? Thanks

When this happens, does the air stop blowing from the vents and change direction? For example, does it change to defroster then back to the vents?

Yes, the air flow changes direction from vents to defroster, back and forth.
