I unhooked the negative battery cable and changed the starter. When I finished installing the starter, I put the negative cable back to the battery and now it will not start. It turns over good but will not start. Truck was starting fine before I changed the starter. The only reason I changed the starter is because it was dragging a little. I did leave the key in the ignition during this process.

Hi,

The crankshaft position sensor is located behind the starter motor. I suspect either it came disconnected or the wiring/connector was damaged.

Disconnect the battery again and remove the starter to inspect the sensor.

If you look at the pic below, I circled the sensor in red. The yellow is where the starter would be.

If you would rather, you can check if there is spark to the plugs rather than removing the starter. If there is no spark, the sensor is the likely issue. Also, when cranking the engine, see if the tachometer moves at all. If there is no sensor signal, there is no RPM signal.

Let me know what you find.

Take care,

Joe
