When I get it started it runs perfect and everything works as it should but when I turn the car off it won't start back up, is it a problem with the alternator or battery?

Hi,

The problem could be related to either the battery or the alternator. If the battery is faulty, it won't have the power to turn the engine. However, if the alternator isn't charging the battery, it will get too weak.

Has the indicator light for the charging system turned on? Also, are the battery terminals both clean and tight?

What you should do is have the battery load tested at a parts store. That way, you can confirm if the battery is good or not.

Here are two links. One explains how to perform a very basic load test on the battery at home. It doesn't require any tools.

Also, here is a link that explains how to check an alternator. All you need is a voltmeter or multimeter.

Try those and let me know the results. Additionally, let me know what happens when you aren't jump-starting the engine. For example, do you hear anything when you turn the key?

Let me know.
