My car is the ZX2 model. I have replaced the spark plugs, distributor cap, cam shaft position sensor and had the timing professionally set by hand and my fuel pump has been checked and is working good. My car was running rough in first, second and third gears evening out just before shifting into fourth (it ran rough for about a month). I parked it at a friend's house and when I went to go home my car would crank but not turn over. I am running out of ideas and patience as it has been four months since I had to get it towed home. I need some possible ideas as to what has happened and what can I do to get it running again. It now seems to drain my battery when nothing is on.

Have you checked the spark plug wires to see if they all have a spark, I am actually working on an Escort right now too, but the ignition coil was bad. Mine still will not start, but it was one more thing it needed.

Hello,

Lets start by checking for ignition spark that way we can determine if it is the crankshaft angle sensor or something like that.

Here is a guide top help us get started:

Here is a general guide that can help as well:

Well, we have replaced everything now. My car still does not start and the only thing remaining is the code reader. Will let you know what happens.

Does the engine sound normal when it is cranking? I am wondering if it has compression?
