Black smoke under accelleration

My car is a turbo with 227,000 kms blows black smoke when under acceleration. The vehicle is up for sale but I don't want to buy a lemon. With this sort of mileage would I be safe in assuming the issue would not be related to injectors or rings but rather carbon build up around the valves or EGR valve blocked and could be fixed with cleaning or running detergent additive to remove carbon? Any advice would be appreciated.

Black smoke is usually either carbon buildup or burning oil. If it is burning oil, you would need to find out why. A couple of things to look into is oil condition and level, and if the engine has had any work done to it. If the oil is good, it may be due to burning oil in the compression chamber meaning the oil is seeping past the compression rings in the cylinders, which means the rings would most likely need to be replaced.
