Ash tray removal

I placed my credit card in my ashtray and it slipped behind the ashtray. I need to know how to remove the ashtray to retrieve my credit card. Someone told me that it comes out because smokers remove it for cleaning.

Most ashtray inserts just slide out. Some have friction tabs and others use a tab/lever on the top side that snaps into place to hold them in. If this is the unit that is under the heat/AC controls I believe that insert uses a lever on top. If you have the one that goes down into the top of the console it has a spring tab on the side and should just pull out by pulling straight up. Then you just need to hope the card did not go to the bottom or corner of the console. You may need one of the long reach pick up tools if it did.
