I over-revved my car accidently yesterday and since then the accelerator has become a lot looser and not as tight to press - I was wandering what may have happened and whether I need to buy anything before asking someone to fix it?

I'm not familiar with that vehicle, but there is probably a spring action mechanism at the throttle body. The accerator cable goes from the pedal out to the throttlebody. Access this area and either manually open the throttle and see what is going on or have some one press on the pedal while you watch the action at the throttlebody. IT doesn't need to be running to do this.
